Description

A pair of womenswear gauntlet gloves, in chestnut-brown suede leather and skin; above wrist length(button length 5½), with angled bottom, applied skin with laced edges in geometric design, applied leather in design of joined circles, three points in light grey thread, hand-sewn in brown thread, Boulton thumb.

Donor Phyllis Penney wrote: "Now, to the gauntlets. Yes, I had made gloves before but from Chamois leather. The whole idea of the exam was to show as many methods and styles, as possible. All our leather in the 30s came from a firm George & Co, in Noel Street, Soho. I trained as a teacher of embroidery and Arts and Crafts for Industrial Design. It was really most interesting as I had to do Heraldry and Architecture too".
