Associations

Historical Associations:

The gloves belonged to Captain Richard Price of Gunley 1653

Association Type:

Historical Association notes:

Captain Richard Price fought in the Parliamentary army in the English Civil War and was High Sheriff of Montgomeryshire. The body of the gloves definitely date to 17thC, with perhaps the tassels being added at a later date. During the early 19thC there was a fashion for collecting militaria, and as there was a scarcity of good items, much early militaria was "enhanced". This was probably when the tassels were added.
